Right now, we are unable to grasp the true essence of AI,
and stand at a crossroads between “living in fear” and “living by utilizing it.”
We are recruiting comrades who are willing to take on
the challenge of creating new films together with AI.
The evolution of AI technology has already revolutionized filmmaking.
Scripts and characters generated by AI are breaking the conventional bounds of movie production, creating new methods and expressions.
We aim to ride the wave of this technological innovation, challenging ourselves to create new cinematic worlds together with AI.
Director Miike, who boasts an overwhelming number of productions and has left a significant mark on the film industry both in Japan and internationally, has launched the AI movie production project “Creating the Best Movies with AI” to realize new film productions using AI technology.
We eagerly await the participation of those who want to see how AI technology will change filmmaking, who want to be involved in new film production, who want to witness this forefront, and who aspire to be frontrunners in AI movie making.
Our first challenge is to have “AI character appearances” and “adopt AI technology” in Miike’s works by 2025.
In 1995, “Toy Story” was released. Pixar Animation Studios revolutionized the film industry and introduced a new form of expression with full CG feature films, thanks to Steve Jobs’ strong will and the efforts of the creative team led by John Lasseter and Ed Catmull.
And now, we aim to open new horizons in movie production by utilizing AI technology.
The technologies developed through this project will bring innovation to the traditional movie production process and expand the possibilities for unknown expressions. Our goal is to pioneer the future of movies.
The first event of this project was held on March 2, 2024 (Saturday), in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, at ‘UPDATE EARTH 2024’ (organized by the UPDATE EARTH Executive Committee).

This project, “Creating the Best Movies with AI,” is open to all who are interested in AI movies. Regardless of experience, we welcome those passionate about movies or interested in AI technology to register as members. Members will receive continuous information updates and notifications about event holdings.
Born in 1960 in Osaka Prefecture, Takashi Miike is a film director and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the United States. His films “Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai” (2011) and “Shield of Straw” (2013) were selected for the Competition section of the Cannes International Film Festival, and “13 Assassins” (2010) was selected for the Competition section of the Venice International Film Festival.

Yes, we welcome not only video works but also expressions through still images. At the kickoff event on March 2, we will project nominated videos on displays set up inside the venue, so please create a video file compiling multiple still images and submit it.
Yes, participation is possible. Our project fully supports the new development and leap of characters, aiming to appeal to a broad audience!
